Own the whole problem
BirdChime is a small, engineering-led company building software used by thousands of Shopify merchants. You won't just be given tickets to complete. You'll own real problems, decide how to solve them, ship the work, and see it reach merchants within days.

How we work
Five things that are true here
These aren't aspirations on a wall. They describe how decisions are made and what we expect from you.
Ownership means finishing
If you own something, you own it until it works in production and the person who needed it has what they asked for. Not just until your part is done. Half-finished work is not finished.
Problems surface early
A small team works when people can rely on each other. If something is late, broken, or turning out to be the wrong call, we want to know as soon as you know. Nobody gets punished for raising a problem early. Sitting on one is the actual mistake.
You work with the founder directly
There is no reporting chain to climb before your idea gets heard. You'll be part of the conversations where product and architecture are decided. Something discussed on Monday can be live for merchants by Thursday.
Quality is part of the job
Merchants rely on our software for real orders. When something breaks, it can mean a missed delivery, a delayed pickup, or a difficult conversation with a customer. So we don't just build for the happy path. We think about edge cases, timezones, failures, and what happens when things go wrong.
Think before you build
We don't want people who simply take requirements and turn them into code. Understand the problem first, question the requirement, then build what actually needs to be built. We value good decisions as much as good code.
What working here is actually like
You'll have a lot of freedom here. Nobody will break your work into subtasks or check your progress every morning. That freedom comes with responsibility: you own the outcome, not just the task.
In return, your decisions matter. You work directly with the people making them, and what you build reaches merchants in dozens of countries.
If that trade sounds good to you, we should talk.

You might thrive here if
- You take ownership without being asked.
- You don't feel done until the work actually works.
- You investigate before asking someone else to solve it.
- You raise problems while there is still time to fix them.
- You care about the outcome, not just completing your part.
- You notice things that could be better and do something about them.
And it might not be for you if
You may not enjoy this environment if you prefer highly prescribed work, detailed instructions, several layers of management, or a role where your responsibility ends when the task is complete.
That's completely reasonable. Plenty of good companies work that way. We simply don't.
How we hire
A straightforward process, focused on how you actually work
The exact process depends on the role, but the goal is simple: understand how you think, solve problems, communicate, and take ownership.
No panel of eight people. No take-home that eats your weekend. No whiteboard algorithms.
