How it started

Before Bird, I spent more than a decade building products at Google, Intuit, and startups. The biggest retailers had spent years building scheduling, capacity, and delivery routing systems that worked. Most Shopify merchants serving the same customers had to assemble it themselves, app by app, spreadsheet by spreadsheet.

The native Shopify tools were thin: no time slots for store pickup or local delivery, no per-product lead times, no driver capacity, no proper cut-off logic. Other apps were too narrow or built for one specific use case. The bar for what scheduling could do on Shopify was too low. When other apps said something wasn't technically possible, I treated that as a starting point.

A typical day with Bird

A custom-cake bakery in Ohio runs delivery and pickup across two locations. Before Bird, the checkout couldn't tell that a deluxe dozen cupcakes was a 24-hour order but a wedding cake was 48 hours of prep. Customers ordered anything for tomorrow. Saturdays became scramble days.

Now each product has its own lead time built in. Cupcakes show today as available. Cakes need two days. The week between Christmas and New Year, when the bakery is closed, disappears from the calendar entirely. The checkout enforces what the kitchen can actually deliver, so customers only book dates the bakery can keep.

Endlessly customizable and wonderful customer service. Great for this one-woman show to handle lead times and delayed shipping/delivery for the holidays.
