What is a minimum order value in Bird?
In Bird Pickup & Delivery, the Shopify app by BirdChime, a minimum order value is the smallest cart total a customer needs to check out with a method. Set one for local delivery and pickup at each location, and one for shipping. Below it, the cart widget shows a message and blocks checkout.

Where can I set a minimum?
For each method, and for delivery and pickup at each location.
In each location's delivery settings, under Order value validation.
In each location's pickup settings, with its own amount.

One minimum for the whole store, in Bird's Shipping settings.

Decimals are allowed. Leave the field empty to turn the minimum off.
What happens with a real cart?
The help center's example: a USD 45 minimum, and two customers with USD 50 carts.
- Discount in the cart
A cart-page discount brings the first cart to USD 30. That's below USD 45, so checkout is blocked until they add more.
- Discount at checkout
The second customer passes the cart check at USD 50, then enters a code at checkout. The order goes through, even if the total drops below USD 45.
Want to allow small orders but reward bigger ones? A $0 Price rate from 50 up, plus your standard fee from 0 to 49.99, gives free delivery over 50.
What do customers see?
A minimum order message in the cart widget, and a checkout button that waits.

For example "Minimum value for pickup is $100.00", shown for the method the customer picked.

The checkout button stays blocked until the cart reaches the minimum.
Rewrite the pickup, delivery and shipping minimum messages in Text and languages, for each language you sell in.
Do discounts count toward the minimum?
It depends where the customer applies them: in the cart they count, at checkout they don't.

The cart total, on the cart page, for the method the customer picked.
- Cart-page discounts
The widget checks the discounted total. If it drops below your minimum, the customer adds more items first.
- Checkout discounts
The cart check has already passed, so a code entered at checkout can take the total below the minimum, even to USD 0.
Bird's automatic pickup and delivery discounts apply at checkout, so they don't affect the minimum.
Should I use a minimum or free delivery over a value?
A minimum blocks small orders. A free delivery threshold allows them and charges a fee.

Carts below it can't check out with that method at all.
Carts below the threshold still check out, and pay your standard delivery fee.

Free-over-a-value rates work the same way for delivery, shipping and pickup.

How do I set a minimum order amount for local delivery on Shopify?
In Bird, open the location's local delivery settings and enter an amount under Order value validation. Carts below it see a minimum order message and can't check out with delivery. It's included on every paid plan.
Can pickup and delivery have different minimums?
Yes. Each method has its own minimum, and with several locations each location can have its own for delivery and pickup.
Can each store location have a different minimum?
Yes, for delivery and pickup. The shipping minimum applies to the whole store.
Can a discount code take an order below the minimum?
A discount applied on the cart page counts, so it can block checkout. A code entered at checkout comes after the cart check, so the order can go through below the minimum.
Can I offer free delivery over a certain amount instead?
Yes. Create a Price rate of 0 from your threshold upwards and a second rate with your standard fee below it. Customers below the threshold can still check out and pay the fee.
Does it work for Shopify stores outside the US?
The minimum is an amount you enter for each method. You can rewrite the minimum order message for each language you sell in.
Do I need a developer?
You set it yourself by typing an amount into the Minimum order value field in Bird's settings.
